Topic: Hello and Welcome to Like Me!

I want to to a few seconds to post and introduce myself. I am Chuck. I am Chely's best friend. I am also one of the co-founder of this organization along with Chely and her Aunt Char.

I am a out gay male personally and professionally. I can't say enough how proud I am of Chely. Being one of the few people who knew what she was about to do I can honestly say I never imagined the effect she would have would be of this magnitude. I knew she was going to do great things and I knew she was going to be a champion for the LGBT community. I celebrate along with all of you just how lucky the LGBT community is to have such a passionate, loving, caring and intelligent individual out there representing all of us.

What a great day this is for all of us with the unvailing of the Like Me Organization web site and all the great things we have in store to insure every single person know they are not alone and that there are others out there LIKE ME and LIKE THEM. We had started planning for this organization prior to Chely's coming out and it has been a labor of love for all of us involved.

The term LIKE ME is not just about us in the LGBT community but we share this with our straight allies, family members and friends. When my brother wears a LIKE ME t-shirt it is out of support and love for me but it is also because there are others out there LIKE HIM who have a gay brother or sibling that they love and care for.

I just really love what LIKE ME stands for. All of us are LIKE EACH OTHER and its time to celebrate it.

Happy Thanksgiving to All!

Chuck

Re: Hello and Welcome to Like Me!

Thank you Chuck for all you do.... and have shared with us today.  Chely is truely making her mark in the gay community.... we love her.

I'm so glad to be a part of this new forum.  I am 48 yrs old and have been out since i was 18.  I'm so thankful my family never gave me a hard time about who i am, they just accepted me and wanted me to be happy no matter what my sexual preference is.  I have a 24 yr old son who is also gay.  We have been very fortunate to have such a loving family that supports us and who we are.

I think with all the years of experience dealing with living an open lifestyle I will able me to share some of my knowledge, hopes, dreams and simple love of all people.  I am from a small island, Key West, Fl.  we have a very open and gay friendly community who supports many of great causes and events raising awareness of the GLBT.

Our motto is "One Human Family"  I love that about my hometown......

Thank you again and hope you have a great holiday!

Michelle

Re: Hello and Welcome to Like Me!

Well said Chuck!. I too am more than impressed with the effect Chely's coming out has had on all of us. Her commitment to advocate for LGBT youth is inspiring. I believe you too should be proud not only for her, but for yourself as you have been a support to her. You are both very lucky to share such a good friendship. Congrats, and thank you to you both and Aunt Char for this forum.

Re: Hello and Welcome to Like Me!

Not sure where to start. I've been a fan of Chely since the 1990s and known Chuck through the fan club. (hi Chuck!!) I used to run a site about Chely back then too, here in the UK! Anyway, My Name is Jayne (prefer Jay). I am 43, in a civil partnership with my partner of 8 yrs (Sara).
I totally 100 percent support this project and chely and chuck in everything they do. They are both fantastic role models for our community. And not just the gay community, for all young people growing up in a world where sadly there is still prejudice.

I was awestruck when Chely came out, I had no idea!! I say awestruck, because here finally was someone i looked up to and admired, who was gay! It was brilliant news for me personally. Congrats for setting up this board and the site. Its all fantastic and i look forward to being involved for many years to come.

Much love to all
Jay
PS: I am a gay female but on the verge of being trans... I am a little confused!!

Thanks for all the nice words and well wishes.  I am so excited about what we are about to do and what we can do.
Please encourage others to come by and sign up. Lets get this in full force. There is nothing better then others helping others.
That is what a community is all about!

@Jay-great to see you here. i remember your site. Didn't your brother also help you or had one for Shania?
Glad to here about your transition. Glad you are being who you are meant to be,
Have you followed Kimberly Reed's story or seen her film?

Not sure if i will ever transition but in my head i have... Just doubt surgery would ever happen. But never say never! I havent heard of Kimberly Reed, maybe you could post something about that?

You have to see the documentary Prodigal Sons . Here is the link for the film.
This is Kim's story and I feel I learned so from it.

Kim was also on Oprah and I am sure you cans see that on You Tube.

Re: Hello and Welcome to Like Me!

Hi Chuck,
This message board is a great idea. Chely is really lucky to have you as a friend. I am very grateful for celebrities like Chely  who have a large platform and are willing to be authentic in front of millions of people. I think it normalizes us in the eyes of the world. I also think I do my small part by living with my partner of many years in our small rural community in the mountains of North Carolina. Our neighbors see us walking our dogs. They see us taking care of our property and they experience our kindness. We help normalize things, too, by living a life that is authentic to us.

With every good wish,

Re: Hello and Welcome to Like Me!

Guessing this is the introductions thread? Hope so!

I'm Tricia! I'm 16 and from Iowa, and I've been out and comfortable with my sexuality for a about 2 years now.  However, its only been a year since I've stopped dating men and "trying" to like them, which I'm proud of.  Other than that, the one thing I had a hard time with, and still do, is integrating Christianity and sexuality.  Its still something I'm trying to work through, and Chely has been such a huge inspiration on that front.
Other random stuff about me....theater nerd, amateur writer, actress, co-owner of anyonebutmefans.com, singer, obsessed with Rizzoli and Isles, hostess at applebee's but really wishes she could just nanny full time instead of seating tables for crap pay.....Yup that's about it!  Nice to meet you all!

*hugs!*
